Stand-Up Paddleboarding Tips For Beginners: The Basics You Should Master

Are you interested in London watersports? Stand-up paddleboarding has been gaining traction lately and you don’t want to miss out on this fun activity. If you are trying to master it, you should make sure that you learn the basics first. There are a lot of things for you to remember, but you’ll be performing a lot better once you get the hang of it.

1. Get the correct gears

If you still haven’t bought your gears and you don’t know where to start, you could buy a stand-up paddleboarding beginner set to get you started. Some may come with handy training accessories that will help with your mastery of the basics. However, the most important things that you should have before you go out to the water are:

A wide and longboard is the best to get if you are a beginner

A paddle that’s at least 25 cm taller than you for better traction

A leash that’s as long as the board you bought

2. Don’t brave the waters

When you are just starting out, trying to find your balance when paddleboarding is very important. This will give you an idea on how well you can do once you are in motion. If you want to make sure that you get the best experience possible, you should go where calm waters are. Pace yourself and make sure that you take it slow while making adjustments whenever necessary.

During this time, you will fall a lot. Don’t be worried about falling unless you don’t know how to swim. If you don’t know how to swim, then that’s the first thing you should definitely take care of before you even consider stand-up paddleboarding. There are safer ways to fall whenever you are in motion so make sure that you ask your instructor to show you how to do it.

3. Check if it’s windy

If it’s too windy when you try out stand-up paddleboarding, it might not be a good idea to practice your balance during that condition. London watersports may hinder you from training your basics due to the windy conditions happening more often, but don’t be discouraged. As long as the winds are manageable, this can actually help with your technique in maintaining your balance.

Your paddling technique will also be affected with how windy it is. You will need to make sure that you have the correct form so you are not exerting too much effort when you could be coasting the rest of the way. Let the paddles do the work for you at first and focus on being able to stand-up on your board.

4. Master how to paddle

How you paddle is perhaps the most important thing when it comes to stand-up paddleboarding. No matter how good you with balancing, you won’t get anywhere if you don’t know how to paddle correctly. Having a strong core will definitely help you out when you are just getting started since maintaining your balance as you paddle will take less effort.
